Dove, Quail and Trophy Whitetail Deer Hunting in South Texas

You will be arriving on Thursday or Friday afternoon (check in after 1 p.m.), and the first thing you’ll be required to do, after unpacking and settling in, will be to have a short “target practice” to make sure your rifle is sighted in at the shooting range in our caliche pit. We want to confirm that your gun is “sighted in” AND that you can actually hit a target BEFORE allowing you to throw lead bullets at our deer.

Each whitetail deer hunt will be a one-on-one guided hunt, in a deluxe two-person or three-person, all-weather tower blind, which range from four (4) feet to ten (10) feet off the ground.

Your guide will be able to assist you in aging, sizing and confirming the “pricing” of each buck that you see on the ranch, so you can decide that it’s “your buck” before you pull the trigger. Once blood is drawn, it is the ranch’s policy that a “harvest” of that animal has been made and accomplished, due to the occasional difficulty of locating blood and the possibility that the deer may be wounded but not bleeding, and the animal is not found.

If you discharge a bullet or arrow in the direction of a buck when the guide tells you to harvest such buck, you pay for such buck no matter what you hit or don’t hit, unless you kill a different buck which the guide told you was off limits.

We will take great lengths to track down a wounded animal if such an event should occur. Our current management program is laying the groundwork to ensure the next generation of incredible bucks here at Los Orcones Ranch. Year round feeding of protein, along with the introduction of food plots and mechanical aeration of the habitat, AND selective harvest of management buck deer have made an enormous difference in quality and quantity of wildlife.

Hunters purchasing a deer hunting package will be hunting on a select 1000 acres of the ranch, all to themselves. Food plots and protein feeders are strategically located on the ranch to cultivate a variety of high protein, nutritional vegetation for the assured viability of all the wildlife species. This combination, along with the native vegetation, has resulted in a significant increase in mass and antler size each year.

The genetics of the Los Orcones Ranch whitetail population produces the gambit and wide spectrum of trophy racks, ranging from fine, tall basket racks to beautiful, wide rack, with additional stickers and kickers showing up as well. Join us to hunt the trophy whitetail buck of your dreams.

The ranch uses a modified scoring system, which is based on the Boone & Crockett scoring and measuring system, to measure and score any buck harvested. If a ring, usually my wedding ring, can be placed on a point, you count that point. Stated another way, if I can hang my wedding ring on any antler outgrowth, point or protrusion, it is counted as a point, and measured accordingly. All points, tines, beam lengths, spread, etc. on the rack are measured using the Boone & Crockett method of scoring to come up with a gross B&C score. The gross measurement is what is counted and considered as the score of a Los Orcones Ranch harvested buck. Furthermore, it is the measurement as taken and recorded by the Ranch that will count, govern and will resolve any conflicts to the contrary.
